Make a Superman Costume Out of Your Own Materials

With a little ingenuity, it is not that hard to create a Superman costume out of the materials you have at home. First it is important to get an idea of what you are trying to make. Gather some sources that you can refer to later when you might have a question on what might work best. Overall, from head to toe, you will need a blue long-sleeved shirt, a red and yellow ‘S’ logo for the front, red underwear, blue pants, red stockings, and a red cape. You might be thinking that some of these things are nowhere to be found in your house. Just take another look around.

A blue shirt shouldn’t be too hard to find. It can be a coat, turtle-neck, pajama top…the list is pretty extensive. Don’t restrict your thinking to your personal wardrobe either. Don’t worry if the shirt doesn’t fit exactly because it will mostly going to be covered by the red cape.

Moving onto the logo, this can be made with masking tape, construction paper, computer print out or an iron on patch. Referencing one of your pictures is important to make sure that you have the right colors and pattern to your design. Once this has been fastened to the shirt you can move to the next step.

Pants really should be another easy quest. The same rules apply to the pants as did the shirt. It looks best if they are snug so thermal underwear, your sister’s tights, or stretchy pajama bottoms might work well. Cotton is usually the warmest and most comfortable. As for the red underwear and the belt that cover the waist, I would suggest using your own clothing… just a thought.

For the feet, if you have a pair of red boots or shoes, that seems to work best. Red sparkly or slick stockings might work as well, depending on where you will be wearing the costume. A cape can be formed by using a red sheet, towel or blanket. Become resourceful. Anything that is white will work for you as well because the wonderful power of fabric dye can fix just about anything if it is of the right material. Thinking outside the box withholds the key to creating a wonderful Superman costume out of things you already have at home.
