Big Screen Entertainment Centers

Home entertainment centers, apart from providing storage space for the audiovisual equipment, can serve as the ideal place for a family gathering every evening if you plan your entertainment center carefully.

Apart from the creative satisfaction that you will derive from this activity, you will also be able to give a unique identity that will transform your house into a well cared for home. All this will require some planning on your part.

First of all, plan your space for the PC in the entertainment center. A PC is no longer meant for work alone. You can use it to download songs, videos, and also manage digital data. You will need a few hours of set-up time for connecting it to the entertainment center. This will also include a broadband connection, either a wireless or a wired one.

While buying your entertainment center, you need to keep in mind the size of the TV you possess. There are a large number of styles and sizes available in the market, ranging from 21 inch TVs to full-size home theater systems.

You can now enjoy the benefits of both the TV and PC at the same time. While the PC makes it easier to download music, you can enjoy music, videos, or movies on the big screen backed with surround-sound speakers systems.

If you plan well, your entertainment center can serve as the perfect place for the family to sit together. These entertainment centers have enough storage space that you can also plan to keep your books there.

So if one person wants to watch TV or listen to music, he or she can use the headphones and someone else can read a book.

Also, while planning your entertainment center, do keep in mind the space requirements and also you home décor and furnishings. You can design your entertainment center as a corner cabinet, wall cabinet, or custom built cabinet.

Utilize your space well and don’t stop at anything but the perfect fit. If it is a corner entertainment center that you have opted for, you can stack two or more rounded corner units and in this way transform this empty space into a compact storage center.

Home Entertainment Theater Decorating

Now that technology has made having an in-home entertainment system a reality, how do you go about incorporating one into your own home? Creating a home theater involves more than just choosing a system, you've got to design a space that will provide the best viewing experience.

First decision: location. To create a true "theater" experience, you'll want to have as little interruption from outside light as possible. For that reason, many people use a basement or an attic room for their home theater. If you don't have an attic or basement, choose a room with the fewest or smallest windows. Covering the windows with both pull-down shades and heavy, dark-colored curtains will best darken the room for optimal viewing during the daytime. Check with home-improvement stores and window showrooms for special "black-out" curtains and shades.

You might think that wall color isn't a big issue in your home theater-since the lights will usually be off. However, you should give wall and floor treatments some consideration so that they don't distract during show time. For example, you'll want to use dark, deep colors such as brown, deep red or charcoal gray to keep the walls in the background while a movie is playing. Textured wall covering or matte finish paint will keep walls from "shining" with screen light reflection.

Although the lights will usually be off in your home entertainment room, you'll need a good lighting source for entering and leaving the room. It's best to avoid overhead lights as they can be too glaring. Sconces that produce soft light on walls and recessed lighting are the best choices for this room. Use dimmers to control the lighting so that you can adjust the brightness to keep viewers' eyes comfortable.

The kind of seating you choose for your home entertainment theater depends on the kind of crowd you expect to entertain. Will your young children and their friends be the heaviest users? If so, a couple of large sofas will work well. Kids tend to fight over individual seats, but they can all pile on a sturdy sofa. An added benefit to a comfy couch is the opportunity for one or two people to simply sprawl over it for more private viewing. Recliners and loveseats offer a comfortable seat for teens and adults. In fact, why not put a number of recliners in the room, so everyone can have the most comfortable seat in the house? If multiple recliners are not in your budget, easy chair/ottoman sets work just as well, if not better. In a pinch, the ottoman serves as extra seating.

The finishing touches in decorating your home entertainment theater are the most practical ones. A solid level surface, such as a wooden table or T.V. tray, within reach of each seating area makes it easy for viewers to set down snacks or drinks. To avoid having to leave the room to replenish snacks, keep a mini refrigerator in the room, and use cupboards or existing closet shelves for dry snacks. A small microwave oven will let you make popcorn and heat up nachos without ever leaving your home entertainment haven.

Hurricanes and Music Pop Charts

Are you a songwriter and find a tough time writing new songs? It is not easy to write a good one and it is hard to get in the right emotional and creative state in order to make a good song. In addition if you do not put the right melody with the right lyrics it will not work, it will not sell and no one will like it and good luck trying to get a local radio station to play it without you paying them.

I submit to you that when people fall on hard times or are involved in adversity in life that they can draw on the raw emotions of that time to get into a creative state to help them write great songs. Adversity builds character and adversity spurs on creativity.

It is almost as if necessity is the Mother of invention and extreme hardship is the Father of creativity. Can you use the destruction and devastation of an Atlantic tropical hurricane season to help you write a song, which will help people get through life?

Such a song is needed and if you are a good songwriter and you can get in the proper mood you will be able to write that perfect song. Perhaps during the next mandatory evacuation of the next large category or catastrophic hurricane you can tap into that raw emotion.

Perhaps if you fail to evacuate and you stock up and then go without tap water and power for four to six weeks while authorities try to repair the damage, that you can use this time to write a perfect song about hurricanes and adversity.

The legendary career of Barbra Streisand is well known around the globe. Paved with impressive achievements and memorable moments, Streisand became the first female actress to ever direct and star in a motion picture that was recognized with a Best Director nomination from the DGA (Director’s Guild of America). The film, The Prince of Tides, was also honored with seven Academy Award nominations.

In 1963, Barbara Streisand released her first album, which was fittingly titled ‘The Barbra Streisand Album,’ for which she received two Grammy Awards. At that time, she was the youngest artist to have ever received the Album of the Year award. As Barbra made her motion picture debut in 1968, her attempt paid off with an Academy Award for Best Actress, which would be the first of two Oscars for this outstanding performer.

The self-proclaimed “actress who sings,” Barbra Streisand has repeatedly found herself at the top of the record charts and the box office. What do you Need to Start a CD Duplication Project?

While at your local record store, browsing for CDs, you notice how slick and professionally manufactured your favorite artist’s CDs look. This may be kind of disheartening if your band’s last attempt at a demo was burned on your home computer and labeled with a black felt tip marker. Why not step it up and have your next recording manufactured professionally? There are numerous duplication and replication labs out there that are very affordable. The process is very simple, requiring only a couple of things from you. What do you need to start your CD duplication project?

1. CD Artwork
You will need to create the artwork for your CD face and the artwork for any inserts. An insert is the artwork that is displayed in the jewel case, which includes the “booklet” that comes with many CDs. To create these files, you will need an image editing/creation program. I recommend using Adobe Illustrator, or Adobe Photoshop. But there are many different programs available for you to use that will work just as good.

When creating your artwork, please take in mind that most print houses (CD duplication facilities included) print everything in CMYK format. CMYK refers to the different inks used to print your artwork.

C= Cyan

M= Magenta

Y= Yellow

K= Key (Black)

Fun fact: The reason that black ink is represented by a K and not a B is to prevent it from being confused with Blue.

Fully explaining CMYK printing is an article in itself, and most of you will not need to understand it in any more detail. Just remember that when you open a new file in your graphics creation program, you need to set the file format to CMYK. Also, for high quality printing, your artwork will need to be at least 300 DPI. DPI stands for dots per inch, and is a measure of printing resolution, in particular the number of individual dots of ink a printer or toner can produce within a one-inch space. If your artwork is any less than 300 DPI, the final print will most likely be blurry. Refer to your CD duplication house’s documentation for any further information, as specifications vary from company to company.

2. Audio Files
All audio is converted to .CDA format when pressed (replicated) or burned (duplicated) on to a compact disc. If you have had your music recorded professionally, they will provide you with a “master”. A master is the original copy of your recording on a disc (or tape), used to create CDs and records. CD quality audio files are usually presented to your CD duplication house in the form of uncompressed 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo .WAV files. You will need to check with the company that is manufacturing your CDs, because like your artwork, specifications vary from company to company.

These two items prepared correctly, will net you a fine looking (and sounding) batch of CDs. Keep in mind, video buffs, that most of these duplication companies also duplicate DVDs. I hope that all of you, musicians and filmmakers, realize now that it doesn’t take that much to bridge the gap from amateur to professional quality media. Bring your next project to the next level!

The State of Jazz

Led by guitarist Bob Sneider and his trio, the nightly jam session at the 2006 Rochester International Jazz Festival proved to be a disappointment. The state of jazz has changed drastically since the mass migration of many American families to the suburbs occurred decades ago. A jam session used to be a place where young musicians could prove their talents and work out ideas and melodic solo lines with an established band. Often times, these sessions would prove to be a place where musicians could network with one another and find work for the coming months. The old style jam sessions were a place where musicians could challenge another to a musical duel. Fans could root on their favorite horn player while they showcased their skills to an appreciative audience. Are those days a thing of the past?

If the recent jam session held at the State Street Bar and Grill in Rochester, New York is any indication, the answer is yes. While the concept was great (musicians from the festival jamming with local talent), the execution left something to be desired. Students from the Eastman School of Music seemed to dominate the early set. Though not intended to be a college recital, Bob Sneider appears to be most comfortable when he is surrounded with students he teaches. Others were allowed a 2 chorus solo on one song then ushered off the stage. This was no real jam session. Musicians were not allowed to explore ideas and engage the audience. It seemed more like a classroom lesson.

The one difference from days past and currently is that in this day and age of college degrees for everything, musicians of days past realized you can’t teach jazz. It has to be something learned from experience and something that is past down from elder musician to young lion. Hopefully, this trend will not continue in future festivals. Musicians need to play and young students need to learn. I am hoping for a true jam session in years to come instead of the Eastman student recital we all witnessed at this year’s jazz festival.

Gospel Music: Tracing Back Its Roots

Ever since some cognitive human beings have set foot on Earth, music has greatly taken part of their lives. The folks belonging to the days of yore created their own musical arrangements by plucking strings and hitting things like wood, hide, or stone. The sounds of nature have also served as one pleasant musical sound for them. They undoubtedly took pleasure listening to the sound of the waterfalls, the animals, and even the weather-related reverberations.

Music has then taken a further course. Throughout the passing of time, people have invented creative means of creating music. From the schools to the churches, there is music. The music industry has also created varied genres of music for all occasions.

You will often see or hear people preaching about the word of God. The gospel of the Lord is being delivered through the means of other people who serve as His own instruments. Simply listening to His words enlightens your spirit, right? God has often reminded His people to love one another as he loves everyone. He places every creation he has made under His care. Although every person has been created in His image and likeness, still no one leads a perfect life. To put it in a much simpler term, no one is as perfect as God is.

One’s spirituality and faith can thus be manifested by several means. Reading the bible, following the ten commandments of God, praying, singing gospel music, and attending mass are among the typical ways by which one’s spirituality is nourished. They often say that those who sing praise twice. Thus, by singing the gospel music, you are praising twice!

What is gospel music?

Gospel music is a religious music that contains the word of God. Gospel music is at all times used as one medium to praise God Almighty. In varying tunes and arrangements, gospel music can always be heard during the celebration of the mass, praise and worship activities, and healing mass.

There is no limit as to the use of gospel music. You can even make it as your morning praise habit. You can listen to it while driving your car. Or you can let it resound in your house. Some gospel music singers perform the genre in nightclubs and secular settings. These days, more and more gospel music are hence becoming danceable therefore making the enlightening of the spirit more effective.

The Roots of Gospel Music

The gospel music was first popularized by the African-American churches way back in the 1930s. Two styles of the gospel music emerged in those days—that of the black people and that of the white southerners. Despite the two separate styles, gospel music still traces its roots from the Methodist hymnal. There came a time when the artists from the two separate categories sang the gospel music of each other.

The onset of gospel music has marked a phenomenon in America regardless of the distinction between the while and black churches. Indeed, gospel music has reached Australia that gave birth to the gospel choirs of Jonah and The Whalers and The Elementals plus the beginning of the Australian Gospel Music Festival. Norway also gave rise to both the Oslo Gospel Choir and the Ansgar Gospel Choir.

The Influences of Gospel

The trendy pop music had greatly influenced the gospel artists. In turn, gospel music has also influenced the rhythm and blues singers of the 1940s up to the 1950s.

Gospel music has reached the peek of its popularity. Until now, several other gospel musical artists are gaining their own fame for the genre and a lot other patrons are getting drawn on them.
