America's Next Top Model vs. Project Runway

America's Next Top Model is a show that does not get the proper respect that it deserves. Tyra Banks hosts a solid and inspiring TV show that really makes you understand exactly what the world of modeling is all about. What I don't like is how people tend to look down on this spectacular show. Why do they dislike it? Why do they write it off before seeing it? The problem is, of course, the way we view models in our society: we think they are dumb. Or course, some are. But, we like to think of models as two dimensional beings, and we don't see the need to watch them do anything but pose. So, by some weird extension we subconsciously believe that America's Next Top Model won't be a good show. But it is.

America's Next Top Model is well-produced and exciting and full of drama. The contestants are diverse and entertaining, which is perfect. if you want to check out a show that you've never ever given a chance, America's Next Top Model might be one to watch. I've certainly loved it every second of it. I cannot explain how good Tyra Banks is at running this show. She is a little crazy, but actually also insightful and fun to watch.

The problem that we encounter with our preconceptions of America's Next Top Model is that it's completely and totally unfair. We assume, just as the BuddyTV article states, that because of the premise and the channel and the host of the show, we know how good or bad it will be. As any rational person can attest, this is quite foolish. More over, the we make this decision subconsciously and therefore, it's hard to find fault in ourselves. America's Next Top Model, while popular in its own right, is losing out on a number of viewers solely because of stereotypes. This isn't fair to the show or to ourselves.

Basic understanding of your digital camera flash

Many of us do not think twice about the usage of our digital camera’s flash assuming that the camera will use the flash automatically as needed. Flash however can and should be manually set in many scenarios resulting in high quality digital photos.

The most common usage of flash photography is when there is not enough ambient light for example when taking an indoor digital photo in a dark room. There are many other ways in which you can use your digital camera’s flash to get high quality digital photos. One such usage is fill-in flash.

Before setting your flash to manual mode and making more efficient usage of it you should know a bit more of the technology and history behind flash photography. Flash photography has been around for more than a century. During the early days of photography flash was implemented as a powder that was literally lit by either fire or electrical current. At that time flash photography was a risky business. Digital cameras today use a safe implementation by utilizing electronic flash tubes that are automatically synchronized with the camera’s shutter.

You have two options for using flash with your digital camera. The first option is using the digital camera internal flash. Practically all digital cameras have build-in flash units. Most cameras also allow the usage of an external flash unit. Such flash units can be either mechanically attached to the digital camera or they can be connected to the camera via a cable and mechanically positioned on a tripod or any other mechanism. They are synchronized and controlled by the digital camera. External flash units vary in price and features. They can have different maximum light energy that they can emit and different mechanical capabilities (tilting, skewing).

In automatic flash mode the camera sensors evaluate the amount of ambient light in the scene. The digital camera fires the flash if the amount of ambient light is not high enough. There are limitations to the cameras automatic sensors resulting in either firing the flash when it was not needed or vice versa.

In some scenarios the usage of flash can result in poor digital photos. For example when the object is too close to the digital camera the flash light will be too strong and will wash out the object. Another example is in scenarios where the flash creates unwanted shadows in the digital photo. Yet another example is exaggeration of details such as when shooting a digital photo of an older person the skin wrinkles and imperfections details can be overly detailed.

Digital camera’s flash units have a certain effective range. This is a limitation of how much light energy the flash unit can emit. Internal flash units usually have shorter range than external flash units. If the object in the photo is outside of the flash range – the flash will not be effective and the object will be dark. On the other hand if the object is too close to the flash unit or the flash unit emits too much energy the object will be washed out. If your object is outside of your flash unit effective range you should turn off the flash and use slow shutter photography preferably with a tripod or another stabilizing mechanism. If your flash units allows the setting of the light energy that will be fired (usually by setting the distance to the object) – make sure that it is set right to prevent washed out objects.

Making some extra money with your digital photos

Are you an amateur photographer? Do you enjoy taking digital photos? Do you have good quality digital photos to share with others? You can do that and also make some extra money from it. This article will show you how you can enjoy sharing your photography work and also get some cash at the same time.

This article is not about turning you into a professional photographer or about making your digital photos your main source of income. It will show you how you can share your digital photos with others and also make some extra cash at the same time. This money should be considered as extra income – usually a good source of cash to invest back into your digital photography hobby – maybe to buy a new camera, lenses, batteries or anything else that you need.

Photo stock websites: Photo stock websites are becoming more and more popular. Photo stock sites provide a market place for photographers to show off their work while others can view that work and buy it for a price usually set by the photographers. Some photo stock websites allow you to define the exact rights that you grant to the buyer so you can better protect your work. When users buy your digital photos you get a commission out of that money. There are many flavors of photo stock websites examples of two are: www.photostockplus.com and www.smugmug.com.

Your own photo gallery site: Putting a website together is relatively easy using some free commercial tools. For example you can easily set a photo album web site using tools from Yahoo. On your website you can allow users to browse and download full resolution digital photos for free or you can sell the high resolution versions of the digital photos. Implementing a shopping cart and collecting money is easily done using checkout tools from companies like PayPal, Yahoo and Google. Another option is to make money by placing advertisement on your site for example by using Google Adsense. Advertisement however will only generate noticeable revenues if you can attract a high number of visitors to your site. If your digital photos are unique and interesting you might be able to do just that. Another option is to create a dedicated Blog website – or to add a Blog to your digital photos website. You can easily do that with tools such as Blogger and Typepad. In the Blog you can present your digital photos and also write some interesting descriptions of how you took them, what is unique about them and anything else that might trigger the visitors’ interest. Tell your friends and family about your site and post information about it in forums and chat boards.

Work for hire: This is a more conservative and traditional option. You can offer your photography services by posting ads in local classifieds website or newspaper. If you have your own site you can also offer your services through that site or add a link to the site on your ads to allow potential customers to view your work. Make sure that you are candid and up front with your potential customers about what you do, your work and your experience. They should understand that you are an amateur photographer and view your work to decide if you are a good fit for their needs. To get a sense of how much to charge contact other local photographers and get quotes for their services. If you have never done photography for hire before it is a good advice to start with jobs that are not very important to the clients and that can be done again if the results are not satisfactory. For example shooting digital photos of a wedding is probably not a good idea to start with. Taking digital photos of someone’s car is a better option.

Free Movie Software Downloads

The traditional method of watching movies involved going to the theater or watching movies at the home theater by renting movie videos. Though visiting theatres or watching movies on the DVDs are still popular options, another method, which is giving them a run for their money, is watching movies online. Another plus point is that in most cases the movies are free of charge.

Watching movies online may result in a compromise as far as quality if you don’t have the right software installed in your computer. Otherwise you will find that the quality of the picture is very low and the picture continues to flicker, thereby spoiling the movie.

First of all, you need to have the right cable connection. This means you must select the right modem speed. For example, if your modem’s speed is 64 kb, the movie will not start playing immediately. This is because movie files are streaming videos involving mpg or mpg4 files. These files need to first build a buffer in the computer and only after that will the movies begin playing seamlessly. On the other hand, if you have a 256 kb connection, your movie will begin to play instantly. This is because the download time with this speed is much faster.

Also, as stated before the movie files are mpg or mpg4 files that need to build up a buffer before actually beginning to play and therefore the amount of space you have in your computer will also make a difference.

The movie should begin to play in five minutes. If it doesn’t start or you see a broken Q image in the middle of the screen, it means that you don’t have the Quicktime movie player installed on your system.

Apart from a stable cable connection, you also need the QuickTime movie player installed in your system. Most computers already have this software installed. Otherwise you can download it from the net itself.

Picking up a digital camera gift

So you have decided to buy a digital camera for someone. Digital cameras are hot gift items. They are also high tech devices with many features and options. This article will try to help you pick up the right digital camera by understanding the considerations when buying one.

Current camera: If the gift receiver is already using a digital camera you should get the model number, the memory storage and the accessories they have. In such cases getting a digital camera would only make sense if you can afford to buy a new digital camera that is significantly better than the current one they have. A better camera is not simply one that has more mega pixels. As you will see later other considerations like lenses, flash and battery are no less important.

Photography and technology level: If the gift receiver is savvy when it comes to technology and photography you can consider higher end cameras that allow more flexibility and options but are harder to use. Digital SLR cameras fall into that category. If the receive is not into photography or technology you might want to choose a camera that is easier to use such as a digital point a shoot one. It can result in high quality pictures, is easy to use and thus can be very satisfactory to the amateur user.

Expected usage: What is the expected usage of the camera? It is hard to answer this question but you can try to estimate based on knowing the gift receiver. For example if he or she travel a lot for long periods you want to pay attention to features such as camera weight, size, battery life and memory storage. If he or she hardly travel these features are less important.

Additional cost: The cost of owning a digital camera is not limited to the money paid to purchase the camera. In most cases the owner will spend more money on accessories and other additional products. When giving a gift you want to make sure that the receiver would not have to spend more money in the near future for such additional accessories. To make sure that it does not happen the gift should include additional accessories such as batteries, memory cards, lenses and cables as needed.

How many megapixels: It is hard to avoid this question. New cameras are packed with an ever increasing number of mega pixels. Is more mega pixels better? it really depends. More mega pixels is important if the receiver is going to print photos (especially enlargements) or if they are going to zoom in and crop fine details out of big photos. If they just plan to view the photos on their computer screen and maybe print a few 4X6 prints every now and then than 2 or 3 mega pixels is more than enough (yes… just 2 or 3). When buying a gift you would want to buy what is considered the standard megapixels number to date. A good advice is to buy what is considered standard. If after budgeting for extra accessories you still have more money to spend on the gift – you can always go for a higher megapixels number.

Printable CD Covers

A CD cover is the primary identification for any disc. The case itself is a safe-keep and a dust cover for the, disc but an interesting CD cover is a good addition to make the CD more marketable. Even if the CD is not for sale, you can design a CD cover to add finesse to your collection rack. If you are giving the CD, a well-designed CD cover adds emotional value to the disc.

Music companies and artists spend a lot of time on the CD cover design with several professionals on board, but you can make a CD cover even at home. CD manufacturers use offset printing to manufacture CD covers, but at home you can use a good inkjet as well.

A non-graphic artist can also print a CD cover at home. You can search on the Internet for CD cover designs. There are several websites that archive downloadable CD covers. Some websites offer these services on payment, while there are still others that archive CD covers from popular albums and movies.

A good CD cover website will allow you to download ready-to-print CD covers. These are fully laid out and cropped to the desired size. On the other hand, if you choose to just download an image you want printed on your CD cover, you will have to do some graphic editing and layout work before it can be printed.

Most images are of different sizes and resolutions. You will probably need to convert these images to the appropriate file format as well. You can use image-editing software to redesign the image, but all other layout design should ideally be done through DTP software. Another option is to scan the original image to size and then import it to an application to do the four-fold layout.

Printable CD covers are easy to use, and they lend a special touch to your CD collection. You can always opt for the services of a CD cover design company if you are looking for a truly professional touch.

Quick Tips To Draw Faces and Have Them Come Alive

Many artists struggle when drawing faces and capturing a likeness to their models or references that they are drawing. Capturing a likeness and having your drawing come alive is difficult if you don't understand the process well. Understanding some basic tips can help you bring a likeness and emotion to your drawing as never before.

When you start your drawing, you will want to remember that when you are doing your block-in, you want to draw the lines pretty light to start. Block-in the hair, the head, the neck, and shirt if you are going that far down.

One of the best tips that an artist can remember right now is to stay big. Don't worry about little details and trying to refine your drawing yet. This is not the time to do this. When you block-in the head you'll want to keep the hair mass separate at first. Also, a tip every artist needs to know is to always treat the hair as a mass. You never want to get caught up in drawing all of the hairs on someone's head.

Now you can use measuring to help you with your proportions and finding where the placement of features go. Divide the head into visible plains. As you do this, you will be using more geometric shapes now, they will be more angular, and sharp as you start in with the features. You will start to refine now, refining shapes and taking them to smaller shapes now. Then you will want to draw the contour.

Once the contour is drawn, values need to be established. Values are established by dividing the light from the shadows. Look and see where your light source is coming from. Sometimes artists neglect doing this and it can be dangerous to your drawing.

Continue this process of refining and working on your values. Some artists like to increase the tone at this point to help refine the features more and add detail. Finish your drawing off and make sure that you have your values correct. This is a major part of capturing a likeness to who you are drawing.

Remember, drawing becomes more natural the more you do it. Keep practicing and you will soon get better at drawing and capturing the likeness of your models. Try going to drawing classes or local schools to do life drawings every week. This will help you and you can watch other artists as well. Sometimes, other artists may have tips that can help you with certain techniques.

5 Materials and Technologies That Just Might Eliminate Digital Camera Shutter Delay

Bob pushed the shutter release button and…NOTHING HAPPENED. The football passed into his son's hands and the actual photo he took was one of a cheerleader's pom-pom. Bob missed the touchdown too. He resisted an insane urge to slam the camera to the ground and jump on it.

This was his first digital camera, and Bob had just experienced an unpleasant surprise. He had used film cameras all his life, but when his Yashica went into the shop a friend loaned him a digital camera. He naively decided to take some action shots and discovered the most maddening "feature" of digital cameras – the shutter delay.

MADDENING AND FRUSTRATING

Articles on this subject have attributed shutter delay to:

1. The camera's focus system

2. The time it takes the camera to digitally process the image

3. Reaction time of the photographer

Numbers one and three are lag times that most people using digital cameras are accustomed to. Most have used a film camera and know it needs a few milliseconds to focus.

The no-brainer solution is to reduce the aperture of the lens to increase depth of field, or aim the camera at the object you wish to be in focus and depress the shutter button half way in order to "tell" the camera what to focus on, then move the camera to center the image and depress it the rest of the way.

As far as human reaction time, well, it hasn't really changed much for users of film cameras, and people experienced in taking action shots usually get what they want.

So let's look at number 2, the time it takes to process the picture.

TIME TO DO THE PROCESSING

Processing the picture (so the camera can be ready for the next one) comes in several steps to move it from the image sensor to flash card storage:

1. Color corrections. The camera has to examine each and every Charge Couple Device (CCD) element on the photo sensor. It adds green, blue, and red to achieve the right color balance. For a 3 mega pixel camera, the processor has to make 9 million calculations.

2. Sharpening. This boosts the contrast by detecting and sharpening edges.

3. Compression. This process converts the 12 to 14 bits of each CCD sensor to 16 bits by "padding" the information and compressing it to 8 bits. This compresses the file size to 9 megabytes.

These steps require a tremendous amount of computational time. No wonder Bob missed his shot!

CATCHING THE ACTION

There are two ways of capturing action:

1. The "consecutive mode". If the camera has this mode, you can take a series of rapid shots moving through the event. This requires a camera with a large ‘buffer" to hold photos for processing.

2. Anticipating shots by depressing and holding down the shutter release prior to the event. This requires an ability to predict the future, something most of us don't possess.

THE FUTURE OF FASTER SHOOTING

Obviously this would all be simplified if micro processing were faster. Even with large buffers, the speed in which data is transmitted to the processor is prohibited by the rate at which data is conveyed from the CCD. Micro processing speed is the next bottleneck.

Dexter's Laboratory animated cartoons

It all began with a pilot episode on Cartoon Network and later developed into a highly successful cartoon series. The adventures of our little boy genius captured the imagination of children and adults all around the world.

Dexter, boy genius! The Dexter's Laboratory cartoon series, developed by Genndy Tartakovsky, presents us with the adventures of a technical wizard, a master of invention, the king of science and the supreme ruler of inventions – Dexter, boy genius! Dexter may look like a regular boy, but he is in fact a brilliant scientist. Dexter's laboratory is situated underneath the parental home, hidden from view. Dexter's Lab is his heaven, a place where he can work on his next big invention far away from the curious eyes of society. Well, that is until his pink colored dancing and singing sister comes in. Dee Dee is Dexter's greatest nemesis and ins spite of the technical advancements that stand on Dexter's side, Dee Dee always manages to infiltrate the lab and bring chaos to the perfect world of science.

The characters in Dexter's Laboratory

Dexter – The one and only owner of Dexter's Lab, our boy genius wakes up with an idea for “his greatest invention” each morning. His greatest challenge, however, is not offered by science, but by his meddling sister Dee Dee who is girly and pinky and twirly – everything Dexter tries to avoid.

Dee Dee – with a magnetic attraction towards Dexter's Laboratory, Dee Dee doesn't care much for science and technological improvements. She is attracted to bright colors and likes to mix things up, often with catastrophic consequences. Dee Dee does not set out to destroy Dexter's Lab on purpose, but her curiosity is best expressed through her most memorable phrase: “what does this button do?”

Dexter's parents – unaware of the giant laboratory underneath their home, Dexter's mom and dad often get caught up in their son's experiments.

Mandark – Dexter's archrival, Mandark, is also a scientist. Unlike other kids, Dexter and Mandark compete in the area of science. Mandark, however, has a crush for Dexter's sister, Dee Dee, but also a desire to wreck havoc in Dexter's laboratory.

With over 52 episodes, the “Dexter's Laboratory” cartoon series developed by Genndy Tartakovsky has taken the world by surprise. For many, Dexter's Lab is one of the most amusing and engaging cartoon stories ever created. The huge number of fan sites, toys, t-shirts and other “Dexter items” you can buy also comes as a strong argument in this direction. For more cartoons and information please see our other resources on Cartoon-secrets.com, where new games, resources and wallpapers are added weekly.

The Black Eyed Peas IXS

The Black Eyed Pea is an International fame American hip-hop group. They are from Los Angeles, California, America. The group is composed of will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo and Fergie. Their music styles are pop-rap and alternative hip hop. The Black Eyed Peas Group was created in 1989 when will.i.am real name William Adams and Apl.de.ap real name Allan Pineda met and started rapping plus performing together around Los Angeles. They also got opportunity of signing to Ruthless Records that is run by Eazy-E, after inviting the attention of the nephew of Jerry Heller who is Eazy-E's manager. Having another friend in their group, Dante Santiago, they named their trio Atban Klann.

In the beginning of their career, The Group faced some problems. Their first album, "Grass Roots", was never released as Ruthless did not consider the social themes mirrored in the group's music to be marketable to their listeners. The Group was renamed as Black Eyed Pods by Atban Klann. However, Finally it was decided to name it Black Eyed Peas, because - as will.i.am stated on the front cover of the Monkey Business album, "Black Eyed Peas are food for the soul". There were also changes made in the team of the band. The band replaced their original third member with Taboo real name Jaime Gomez, plus had Kim Hill as a steady background singer. Contrary to many hip-hop acts, they opt to perform with a live band and chose a musical and clothing style that wildly different from the "Gangsta Rap" sounds of other Los Angeles-based hip-hop (http://events.ixs.net/Rap-Hip-Hop.aspx ) acts at the time.

Most of the performances of the band were exhibited in the local club circuit since the mid-'90s beside fellow acts like Ozomatli and Jurassic 5. Then they launched their second album named Bridging the Gap in 2000. This album contained the hit "Request + Line" featuring Macy Gray. In 2003, they released their third album, Elephunk which proved to be a superhit. Importantly, The lovely voice of Stacy “Fergie” was featured in this album. From this very album the anti-war anthem "Where is the Love?" came. (possible protest against the Iraq war which began the same year the song was released. in 2003) featuring an unaccredited Justin Timberlake that proved the band's first major hit, mounting at #8 on the US Hot 100, in addition topping the charts almost everywhere else, counting six weeks at #1 in the UK where it was the biggest-selling single of 2003.

Another great song of "Elephunk" was "Shut Up" that ranked at #2 in the UK. However, One of the critic commented on this song as "the single most vacuous, pointless, vile and generally loathsome song in a generation") and topped the charts in many other European countries including France and Germany. Elephunk was an international success and went gold and platinum in the US, UK, Germany and other European markets. The third single from the album, although significantly restyled from the original Elephunk version, "Hey Mama" hit the Top 10 in the UK, Germany and other European countries and reached #23 in the US.

The Black Eyed Peas continued enjoying their work and wrote many new songs.Their next album, Monkey Business, was released on June 7, 2005. The first single of the album, "Don't Phunk with My Heart", was an instant hit in the U.S., going to number three on the Billboard Hot 100. This song rested on the highest pinnacle yet of their career and they brought home another Grammy for Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group. The song also became three in the UK, and five in Canada, and number one in Australia. Though it also earned some criticism due to its obscenity. Another song form the same album "My Humps", instantly achieved commercial success in the U.S. and reasonable substantial radio play regardless of the sexually suggestive lyrics; also reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100. Black Eyed Peas released an iTunes Originals play list of their greatest hits in Sept 2005, as well as some that were re-recorded especially for purchase through iTunes. The play list involved popular songs like "Don't Lie", "Shut Up" plus a new version of "Where Is the Love?"

It is worthmentioning here that Black Eyed Peas also involved themselves in the social welfare services. They established the Pea Pod Foundation to help suffering children globally. The foundation is administered by the Entertainment Industry Foundation. On February 6, 2006, At a concert in Hollywood, California the band was joined by Sergio Mendes, Jessica Simpson, and other stars to benefit the foundation.

Keeping in view of the modern trends, Black Eyed Peas also produced a remix album, named "Renegotiations" on March 21, 2006. It is actually the Remixes" to iTunes. It includes remixed versions of Ba Bump, My Style, Feel It, Disco Club, They Don't Want Music, Audio Delite at Low Fidelity, plus also the standard version and video of "Like That". And the next week it was released on CD without the music video. Others who took part in it were on the EP included DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Erick Sermon, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Large Professor.

Psychic Medium

Psychics are people who have mastered the art of using mental powers like ESP (extra sensory perception) to look into the lives and future of other people and predict future events. The word “Psychic” has Greek roots, derived from the word psychiokos or psyche, which means soul or “that which is mental”. The word is generally used to describe fortunetellers.

Many people have psychic abilities, or the abilities to look beyond the things that are seen or heard or sensed by normal human beings. People believe that this is possible by connecting with a higher power like spirits or souls of dead people. A psychic medium is one who tunes to this higher source for information and uses his or her intellect and intuition to analyze a particular situation or a problem. Psychic mediums act as an intermediary between a person in the real world and the soul of a person who has died.

Psychic mediums can connect with spirit guides, guardian angels, dead relatives of the client, and other supernatural beings. A good psychic medium should be able to interpret the sayings of all these beings and perform perfect analysis. Psychic mediums master the art of clairaudience, which is the ability to hear or perceive sounds, which are not normally audible. They are able to first sense the presence of a non-physical entity through spiritual communication, then convey this energy into the physical realm. This process is called mediumship.

There are thousands of psychic mediums in the world, some more active than others. Several are willing to offer their services for a fees ranges from $1 per minute to $10-$15 per minute. Psychic mediums can be contacted by mail, phone or through e-mail. There are also several websites that offer free psychic consultation online. However, these free services are limited. Psychic mediums are slowly finding acceptance by many people and there is a demand for popular psychics, despite the skepticism of some critics.
